Australia will face Qatar in their 2010 World Cup Asian qualifier in Brisbane without experienced campaigners Harry Kewell, Vince Grella and Mark Bresciano, after the trio were ruled out by injury.
Australia coach Pim Verbeek announced his final 28-men squad to face Qatar on Tuesday, and absent from his list were Harry Kewell, Vince Grella and Mark Bresciano. The most notable absence is Turkey-based Kewell, who is suffering from a groin strain.
Verbeek however, has not ruled out the former Liverpool man from turning out for the Socceroos next week.
"At this moment, it's pretty much about 10 percent, but 10 percent is still a possibility," he was quoted as saying by AFP.
Grella, who plays for Blackburn Rovers in the Premier League, is carrying a calf muscle strain while Bresciano injured himself in Palermo’s 2-1 victory over Juventus in the Italian Serie A last weekend.
Despite the trio missing out on the clash against Qatar, Verbeek still has a strong squad of 19 overseas-based players. The likes of Tim Cahill, Brett Emerton and Mark Schwarzer will all feature against the Qataris.
Queensland Roar central defender Craig Moore was also included in the Dutchman’s list, after making the decision to resume playing international football.
